🗺️ Visa Types & Validity

  • ETA (Electronic Travel Authorization) – double-entry, valid for 30 days per visit; must enter within 180 days of issue via ETA.gov.lk.
  • Visa on Arrival (VOA) – currently available for Pakistanis when ETA system is down or suspended (as of Aug–Sep 2024) .
  • Entering via VOA requires prior approval notification and payment at the airport (~USD 50).

📥 How to Apply

✅ Online ETA (when portal is operational):

  1. Apply via official ETA website: eta.gov.lk (or srilankaevisa.lk).
  2. Pay fee by debit/credit card—USD 20 (single entry, SAARC nationals double‑entry) .
  3. Approval typically in 2–7 days, often 24–48 hrs.
  4. Print your ETA approval notice and carry with you.

✈️ On Arrival Visa (temporary alternative):

  • Apply at Bandaranaike Airport (Colombo) ETA counter.
  • Have essential documents ready + USD 50 fee in cash or card.

⏳ Fees & Processing Time

  • ETA fee (Pakistani passport/South Asia): USD 20 for 30‑day double entry.
  • ETA processing: Usually within 1–3 days; allow 3–7 business days to be safe.
  • VOA fee: USD 50 at airport; visa valid 30 days.

⚠️ Portal & VOA Situation (2024 Update)

  • The ETA portal was suspended by a court order on August 2, 2024, halting e‑Visa issuance temporarily.
  • In that period, only VOA was available to Pakistanis .
  • Portal was restored on Sept 26, 2024 and the ETA system resumed.

✔️ Entry & Onward Requirements

  • Present passport with visa/ETA, return ticket, proof of funds, accommodation details at immigration.
  • ETA granted at arrival passport control desk using approval notice.
  • VOA may be denied if lacking prior ETA notice—carry printed copy.
  • Extensions: initial 30‑day stay can be extended up to 6 months via Department in Colombo.

  • Always apply via official portal (eta.gov.lk or srilankaevisa.lk); avoid third-party scams.
  • When VOA is your only option, have approval notice printed, and ensure all documents are accessible.
  • Maintain a clean travel history and no overstays; Sri Lankan immigration may request funds and onward evidence .
