Portugal Visa Guide for Pakistani Citizens

✈️ 1. Visit Visa (Type C – Schengen Short Stay)

Purpose:

  • Tourism
  • Visiting family/friends

Required Documents:

  • Schengen visa application form
  • Valid passport (min. 3 months validity beyond stay)
  • Two biometric passport-size photos
  • Flight reservation (round-trip)
  • Hotel booking OR invitation letter (with ID or residence proof of host)
  • Cover letter explaining travel purpose
  • Personal bank statement (last 6 months)
  • Proof of employment or business (NTN, SECP, salary slip)
  • Travel insurance (€30,000 coverage)
  • CNIC, FRC (if visiting family)
  • Visa Fee: €80 + VFS charges

📍 Invitations must be notarized in Portugal and may require SEF (Immigration) confirmation.


💼 2. Business Visa (Type C – Schengen Short Stay)

Purpose:

  • Business trips, meetings, conferences, fairs

Additional Documents:

  • Invitation letter from Portuguese company (with details of purpose, duration, accommodation)
  • Letter from Pakistani company confirming position and trip
  • SECP/NTN/Chamber of Commerce certificate
  • Business bank statement (6 months)
  • Proof of relationship between companies (emails, contracts)
  • Hotel and flight bookings
  • All standard documents from Visit Visa

🏠 3. Family Reunion Visa (Type D + Residence Permit)

Purpose:

  • Joining a spouse, parent, or child residing in Portugal

Steps:

  1. The sponsor in Portugal must apply for family reunification approval to SEF (Serviço de Estrangeiros e Fronteiras)
  2. Once approved, you apply for Type D family visa via VFS

Documents Required:

  • Residence permit approval from SEF
  • Type D visa application form
  • Valid passport
  • Marriage/Birth certificate (translated into Portuguese + MOFA attested)
  • FRC from NADRA
  • Sponsor’s residence card + employment contract
  • Proof of accommodation in Portugal
  • Police character certificate
  • Medical certificate
  • Travel insurance
  • Visa Fee: €90

📌 Upon arrival, you’ll apply for a residence card (cartão de residência) in Portugal.


🎓 4. Student Visa (Type D + Residence Permit)

Purpose:

  • Higher education (Bachelor’s, Master’s, PhD) in Portugal

Steps:

  1. Get accepted into a Portuguese university
  2. Apply for a Type D student visa via VFS Global
  3. Apply for a residence permit after arriving in Portugal

Documents Required:

  • Acceptance/enrollment letter from university
  • Proof of tuition fee payment
  • Proof of sufficient funds (minimum €8,000–€10,000/year)
  • Accommodation proof
  • Educational documents (HEC-attested + Portuguese translation)
  • Travel insurance
  • Police clearance certificate
  • Medical certificate
  • Visa Fee: €90

📌 You must apply for a residence permit within 90 days of arrival.


👷 5. Work Visa (Type D + Residence Permit)

Purpose:

  • Employment in Portugal under contract

Steps:

  1. Employer in Portugal applies for your work authorization at SEF
  2. After approval, you apply for Type D work visa via VFS Global
  3. After arrival, you apply for your residence permit

Documents Required:

  • Work contract and SEF work permit approval
  • Type D visa application
  • Valid passport
  • Educational and experience documents (attested + translated into Portuguese)
  • Accommodation proof
  • Police clearance certificate
  • Medical report
  • Health insurance
  • Visa Fee: €90
